Machinga Likwenu independent parliamentary candidate in the just-ended September 16 General Election Jayne Mandeule has donated 40 bicycles to senior party leaders and community representatives who supported her.
She made the donation at Namalasa Primary School on Saturday during a thank-you event.

Mandeule said the bicycles were meant to ease transport challenges among local leaders as they continue mobilising support for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the area.
She said her gesture reflects her continued commitment to the development of Machinga Likwenu despite losing in the polls.
“As you are aware, I was serving as DPP deputy national director before I resigned to contest as an independent candidate following my loss at
the primaries. So, I am DPP and throughout my campaigns, I was canvassing votes for Peter Mutharika,” said Mandeule.
She said she remains loyal to the party and to Mutharika’s vision.
In his remarks, group village head Molipa described Mandeule’s gesture as rare.
“We are used to see losing candidates taking away what they donated to the community and campaign teams. But we have seen that Jayne meant well for the people of Machinga Likwenu,” he said.
In the constituency, 26 345 votes were cast and Mandeule came third out of eight contestants.
Bright Msaka, who stood on DPP ticket, came second. He is the party’s vice-president for the Eastern Region.
The seat was won by United Democratic Front candidate Tulinje Muluzi
